Purpose of Post:

The programme for government and the new national strategy, Prosperity for All, provides a commitment to support people and communities throughout the life course, including into older age, embeds older peoples rights as a long term approach and recognises that as people live longer we will need to work with communities to support the ageing population to stay well into later life. These commitments cut across the whole of Government policy and must be taken forward.

 

The post holder will be required to lead on developing the priority areas and actions for older people, in line the commitments made in Prosperity for All, working across government to embed these, including developing actions in relation to loneliness and isolation for older people as part of that work.

Key tasks:

  1. Advising the Welsh Government on older people‘s policy in line with the national priorities and commitments, by working with stakeholders across public, private and third sector.
  2. Lead the Ministerial Advisory Forum for Ageing to support the development of older people’s policy, including a set out new national priorities that matter most to older people.
  3. Develop cross government actions to tackle the issues that most matter to older people, including in relation to the impact of loneliness and isolation with aim to replace the Older People’s Strategy for Wales.
  4. Ensure that the views of older people are fully considered and taken into account in the development of the work and that any changes are communicated to older people.
  5. Review the effectiveness of the current older people’s engagement groups and advise on a revised stakeholder engagement model.
  6. Develop and embed older people’s rights across Welsh Government and other public bodies.

This post presents an opportunity to work on a high profile policy area, working across Ministerial portfolios and across sectors to deliver ambitious and innovative policy proposals for older people across Wales.

Job Specifics

1.    An ability to reflect the views and issues affecting older people in Wales, including in relation to tackling loneliness and isolation, through in-depth practical expertise and knowledge from working in the third sector and with older people.
2.    Experience of using innovation and creativity to initiate and lead ambitious programmes, projects or events aimed at driving improvements for older people in Wales.
3.    Experience of undertaking a challenging representational role, confidently engaging with others to gain commitment and buy-in to achieving shared goals.
