Purpose of Post:

You will provide professional advice on nursing practice to Welsh Government and act as policy lead for: patient experience and feedback; serious incident management related to nursing including reviewing cases and driving system improvements where appropriate; developing healthcare standards related to nursing practice and the fundamentals of care; addressing quality and safety issues in health care related to nursing; clinical governance assurance functions; and develop and review nursing metrics reported as part of the NHS Performance Framework.

You will support the work to develop electronic nursing documents across Wales and their implementation in NHS Wales’s organisations.

You will be a member of a team of professional nursing officers within the Nursing Directorate and will contribute to the WG’s performance scrutiny role with NHS Wales, specifically focussed on nursing services.

 

Key tasks:

  • Act as the policy and profession lead for patient experience, including representing nursing at the all Wales Listening and Learning from Feedback Group
  • Work in collaboration with relevant national groups such as the all Wales continence forum and the all Wales tissue viability forum to ensure high quality nursing care is delivered to ensure positive patient experience
  • Work with Macmillan Cancer Support in Wales to ensure the effective management of the Welsh Government and Macmillan joint funded biennial Cancer Patient Experience Survey
  • Provide nursing leadership in the development of Patient Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs) and Patient Reported Experience Measures (PREMs) as part of the Value Based Health Care programme
  • Provide nursing leadership to the development of nursing metrics in collaboration with the Welsh Government Quality and Safety team
  • Lead implementation of the serious incident reporting system from NHS Wales to Welsh Government
  • Work in collaboration with relevant national groups to ensure high quality fundamental nursing care
  • Oversee the scrutiny of the implementation of the hospital nutrition standards and chair the all Wales nutrition and catering forum
  • Provide professional advice to Welsh Government (ministers and officials) on: patient experience, serious incident reporting, hospital nutrition and other areas of the portfolio
  • Provide professional advice and support to the Welsh Government Quality and Safety team to assist in delivery of their work programme.
  • Represent the CNO Wales at the Spiritual Health and Wellbeing (SHAW) meetings and provide professional leadership to the implementation of the spiritual care standards
  • Take an active role in the performance management process led by Welsh Government in respect of NHS Wales
  • Act up for the Chief Nursing Officer in their absence as required
  • Lead the development of the annual CNO Showcase conference as required
