Purpose of Post:

The Grenfell tragedy must serve as a constant reminder of the upmost importance of access to a safe and secure home. It continues to serve as a stark reminder of the importance of the devastating consequences that can result when build quality and resident safety are not prioritised. Building Safety is a priority for the Welsh Government. It is critically important that residents feel safe and secure in their homes. 

The postholder will lead on the collection, management, and updates of building safety information for within scope residential buildings in Wales, and ultimately coordinating the establishment of an evidence base for wider policy development. This will require the establishment and maintenance of effective collaborative working arrangements with several internal and external stakeholders.

The postholder will need to have an excellent eye for detail and confident working with data, a good understanding of financial management in Welsh Government, confidence in dealing with government business and a proactive approach to working with both internal and external stakeholders.

Key tasks:

  • Coordinate, acting as the central contact, gathering, and maintaining a key data set policy for the building safety programme.
  • Undertake a review of the data requirements for the building safety team to support the building safety reform effectively and efficiently in Wales.
  • Establishing with each of the policy leads and specialist areas what data is currently held, what data can be accessed and importantly what data will be required to support the legislative reforms in Wales.
  • Establish robust systems to gather and analyse data and feed this into the policy making process, including supporting on the development of impact assessments.
  • Provide clarity and visibility through a Building Safety Programme dashboard to enable clarity on data sets across the programme.
  • Proactively engage with internal and external stakeholders including Local authorities, Fire Services and UK government and devolved administration counterparts
  • Implementing effective governance and data protection systems.
  • Tendering contract following correct procurement process.
  • Implementing effective governance and data protection systems.
  • Work across the wider building safety team to share data and best practice, keep teams abreast of developments, and identify trends and risks and brief senior managers and Ministers accordingly.
  • Preparing government business including freedom of information requests and associated briefing and supporting senior managers. 

Development opportunities:

Your role will form part of Welsh Government’s Building Safety programme which is a high profile, fast paced area of policy development. You will work with staff at all levels including senior staff, Ministers and a range of external stakeholders.
