Purpose of Post:

Care Inspectorate Wales (CIW) is the independent regulator of social care and childcare. We register, inspect and take action to improve the quality and safety of services for the well-being of the people of Wales.

The purpose of the post is to provide leadership and management to the CIW Connect team, inspection managers and inspection support staff supporting all aspects of the inspection process. 

This is a new post that will establish the CIW Connect team as a first point of contact service for the organisation dealing with concerns, service notifications and all forms of contact with the organisation in delivering a high quality, timely service. 

The post-holder will work closely with central and operational teams to lead on the development and design of business process for the CIW Connect and inspection teams to ensure consistency in all processes across Wales. 

As a pan Wales post, travel will be required across Wales in managing teams and supporting staff.

Key tasks:

  • To provide leadership and management support to the Inspection Support Managers and inspection support staff to include direct line management of 4 x MB3 staff.
  •  To provide leadership and management support to the CIW Connect Team as the first point of contact team for the organisation ensuring that all types of contact are dealt with to service standards in a timely and consistent way.
  •  To lead on establishing the new ways of working, ensuring changes are implemented across the business support teams in line with the CIW Connect project vision and objectives.
  • To work with the inspection support team to sustain new working practices and processes in line with new ways of working.
  •  Provide weekly reports to senior management on the inspection support dashboards to track activities and understand resource capacity in short and longer term.
  •  Supporting the development of staff in the team by providing induction training, briefings and acting as mentor or coach as required with staff members.
  • Observation and monitoring of practice to identify and share good practice and areas for development. 
  • Managing own professional development and seeking appropriate opportunities in discussion with line manager. 
  • Acting as operational lead for the Disclosure Barring Service (DBS) process, managing change in relation to the DBS process and reporting any issues to the DBS business process owner. 
  • Any other duties that may be required to support the CIW Connect Team and Inspection Support Team

Job Specific Criteria:


  1. Experience of leading and managing the implementation of new areas of work demonstrating ability to lead, champion and drive through new initiatives through the organisation
  2. Ability to provide good advice and guidance to senior staff and other colleagues both internally and externally to support decision making.
  3. Knowledge and experience of performance and information reporting, utilising appropriate CRM tools, and Microsoft packages.
