This is a part time post for 4 days per week . This role is also available on a job-share basis. Pan Wales
The post is pan Wales and the post holder may work from any of the Welsh Government Offices. However, there is an expectation that due to the nature of the work and the need to meet with Ministers the successful applicant will work from Cardiff at least one day a week.

Purpose of Post

The Director of Health and Care Research Wales is the senior official leading research and development across the health and social care sectors in Wales. The post holder will be based within the Health and Social Services Group, Welsh Government. This post is supported by the R&D Division, which has approximately twenty staff across two branches, each with a Head of Branch reporting directly to the post holder. Personal administrative support is also in place for diary and email management.

The post holder will provide strategic leadership to the R&D Division, which is responsible for developing and implementing policies and strategies for research and development in health and social care in Wales. They will ensure that research and development are commissioned and delivered in ways which meet the Welsh Government’s agenda. The R&D Division is also responsible for funding, commissioning and contract-managing research activity in Wales. The post holder will be supported by civil service colleagues who will oversee the effective management and administration of the Division.

The post is available for up to 4 years and is offered as follows:

Permanent Civil Service employees – you must be an existing Civil Servant recruited through fair and open competition to apply for this vacancy. This post is available on a lateral basis or on temporary promotion for up to 4 years.  If an employee of the Welsh Government at the end of the posting period you would revert to your substantive grade.

  • If on loan from another government department at the end of the posting period you would return to your department and to your substantive grade.

Non Civil Servants

  • secondment for up to 4 years where you would retain your existing terms and conditions including salary or
  • fixed term appointment for up to 4 years

Remuneration

Secondment: If you are applying for this role on a secondment basis, you will retain your existing terms and conditions, including salary that aligns to the part time work pattern for this role.

Fixed Term Appointment: This role is at Deputy Director level and the salary is £68,150 per annum rising to £75,050 after 2 years satisfactory performance. If you are applying for this role on a fixed term appointment basis your annual salary will be pro- rata of the full time salary of £68,150 per annum.
